If you believe someone has committed Welfare fraud, please take the time to share this information
with us. “Welfare” includes Temporary Assistance (cash assistance), Supplemental Nutrition
Assistance Program (SNAP/food stamps), Medicaid, Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) and
Child Care Services (day care).

The unit also investigates cases involving SNAP trafficking where individuals redeem SNAP benefits
for cash, sell their benefits to other individuals for cash, or individuals who buy food with their
benefits and resell that food to other retailers.

All calls are kept strictly confidential and your identity will not be disclosed

Examples of Welfare Fraud:

  • Not reporting income and resources (wages, bank accounts, real estate, recreational vehicles, etc.)
  • Submitting false documents
  • Not reporting individuals coming into a household or leaving a household
  • Submitting false documents and/or claims for services
  • Using someone else’s benefit card to obtain services, benefits or treatment

We also investigate

  • Day Care Providers or landlords who are being paid by Social Services for services they are not providing
  • Retailers who exchange SNAP benefits for cash 

Provider Fraud includes welfare abuse by Physicians, Home Care Agencies, Ambulance Companies, Nursing Homes, 
Child Care Providers, Landlords and Pharmacists
